Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, often referred to professionally as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to be signed with J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. In October of 2016, Ari Lennox released her debut EP Pho. It was here that she gained recognition. Shea Butter Baby released her first album of studio work 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music online in the year 2012 after she dropped her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox continued to post her music on the internet, including her self-released single Bound. In the year 2015, she performed in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat it out on July 21st. Later that year her music began to circulate around the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to collaborate with him on some references for Rihanna. Her announcement to sign with Dreamville Records was made on the 8th of December. In the album Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the track Backseat alongside Cozz. On the 21st of October in 2016, her Pho EP was released. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change as well as performing on her own 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as the opening act. In 2018, she went on to be a guest on two tracks with her labelmates EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. On July 16 2018 Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream of her album debut Shea Butter Baby with an accompanied music video on the 5th of September. The second single she released was called Grampa on the 9th of November. She then released on the 13th of November two singles, titled No One and Pedigree. She appeared with Cole on the Creed II Soundtrack on Shea Butter Baby On November 16, and then made the track available as a single by herself on her debut album. A music video was released on 20 February 2019 to accompany the track. Within the first week, it had over 3,000,000 views. She was one of the support acts for 6LACK in the From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December of 2018.
